Particularly in springtime, you can hear many birds. And in early springtime you can also see them very well (the trees get leaves at the end of April). You will feast your eyes seeing so many different birds: tits, finches, buntings, thrushes, woodpeckers, ravens, jays, quails, partridges, too many to mention. We even heard a golden oriole. |

Many birds of prey live here as well, such as (of course) the common buzzard, but also the short-toed eagle. In addition, the following birds have been spotted on Lacanal: hen harrier, eurasian sparrowhawk, norther goshawk, common kestrel, hobby, and black kite. Elsewhere in the park the Haut-Languedoc griffon vultures can be seen, but these have not yet been spotted on Lacanal. |

At night you hear many sounds - but the call of the wood owl can be heard above everything. And... ever heard the typical sound of a night jar? |

Lacanal is also a very good place to spot butterflies. Just to mention a few you can see at the end of July: meadow brown, admiral, white admiral, swallowtail, purple hairstreak, copper, holly blue, wall, small heath, keizersmantel, tortoiseshell, peacock butterfly and comma butterfly. |
